Legislature’s two-year ban on police pursuits has devastating effect on public safety — but Senate chair stands in way of fix

In this video, Sen. Shelly Short describes the first major clash of the year in the Washington Legislature, over police pursuits. A two-year ban has had two main results — an increase in crime and a decrease in public safety. Lawmakers of both parties support restoration of the tools police need to do their jobs, but a Senate committee chair stands in the way. At the Legislature’s first major cutoff, the only bill that appears likely to receive a vote on the Senate floor would simply study the issue and delay action another year.
What comes next in this standoff?
